Re-Imagining Worship: Involving the Whole Congregation in Making Liturgy
October 11, 2008 @ 9am - 3pm
St. John's Cathedral, Los Angeles, CA
How do we revive a liturgy that is ancient and powerful but can often seem stuck in the doldrums?
What can we do to get the whole congregation deeply participating in a liturgy that is vividly engaging?
Join All Saints Company for a day-long workshop that looks specifically at ways we can develop the Sunday liturgy to get people singing, moving, and participating at all points of the service.
We will concentrate on two areas:
1. we’ll look at the areas of liturgy that fall outside the rubrics of the BCP --how people move in the space, where the centers of action happen, how participants share leadership;
2. we will evaluate our rites to see how they can be streamlined and invigorated. We will look at congregational singing, lay leadership in the liturgy, and how to more fully engage the senses in worship. The workshop will be highly interactive, with ample opportunity to learn and practice new tools to revitalize the liturgy.
Note: This workshop follows on from Music that Makes Community, a three-day conference at The Cathedral Center and St. John’s Cathedral; the workshop can be attended on its own or as part of the three-day conference.
