Tidings of Great Joy: Christmas Pageant Workshop

June 18, 2011 - 9:00am to 2:00pm

Transfiguration Episcopal Church, San Mateo, CA

Come to a workshop dedicated to creating a lively, thriving Christmas play in your church! Join pageant directors and producers from churches around the Bay Area to explore this miraculous, sometimes-challenging event in church life.

We are lay folk, priests, professional actors and dancers, Sunday School teachers and others who never cease to be inspired by the story of Jesus’ birth, and its power to bring our communities together. We’ll meet to share our stories, read from each others’ scripts and play with making our own impromptu telling of the story. This workshop will be a collaborative, on-our-feet experience, formed to the needs and strengths of the group.

We’ll be asking questions like:

- How do you design a pageant?
- Do you want to have many rehearsals or few or none?
- How does making a pageant serve the people involved in it?
- How does it proclaim Good News to people coming to church who’ll see it?
- How do we blur the line between performers and audience (as good liturgy does)?

Bring questions of your own, bring scripts from past Christmas pageants, bring your dreams of what your pageant could be. We will all have the opportunity to contribute, and to learn and be inspired by each other. Questions? Or for more information on the workshop please email donald@allsaintscompany.org
